English 60 - Basics of Effective Writing (SAC)

This course is designed specifically to teach the students how to communicate clearly, think critically, and express their ideas and thoughts in expository paragraphs. Throughout the semester, students will be focusing on writing effective topic sentences, maintaining a strong focus and a consistent point of view, organizing thoughts logically, and providing sufficient, detailed information to support the point. Students will learn how to identify sentence elements and combine these elements to create clear sentences with variety in structure. As a class, students will work on responding critically to the main ideas in the readings, as well as editing and revising multiple paragraphs and a unified essay. All of the class discussions and writing assignments will require college level concepts, vocabulary, and learning skills.
